Asian Women United is committed to social justice and gender and racial equality, including fair representation in the media. We have watched with anger, horror, and pain as the indiscriminate attacks on Gaza and its civilians have unfolded. This war on Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank is the most recent chapter in the history of Israel’s brutal colonial rule over Palestinians, which began with the expulsion of 750,000 Palestinians from their homes in 1948. As American citizens, we denounce the atrocities being committed by Israeli settlers that have been aided through U.S. tax dollars. We oppose the U.S.’ continuous military, economic, and political support of Israel, which includes supplying most of the weapons being used in what we can only characterize as a series of war crimes and genocidal policies. As academics and activists who study and teach about representation in the media, we pledge to continue to call out and object to the biased, Islamophobic news coverage that has silenced the experiences of Palestinians. We stand with those who seek an end to Palestinian oppression and will continue to do so until the world values Palestinian lives as much as it does the lives of Israelis and Americans.
